40 x 6 ft of beds at 3 inches takes 2.5 yards of mulch, $160.00 delivered.

How the math works
Square feet. Measure the length and the width in feet and multiply them. That is the area you are covering.
area = length × widthCubic yards. Turn the depth from inches into feet, multiply by the area, then divide by 27, the cubic feet in a yard.
cubic yards = length × width × (depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27Yards to order. Round that exact cubic-yard number up to the next half yard. A value that already lands on a half yard stays put, so 5.0 stays 5.0.
yards to order = round up to the next 0.5 yardMaterial. Mulch is sold by the yard: yards to order times the price per yard. Gravel is sold by the ton: yards to order times tons per yard, rounded up to the next half ton, then times the price per ton. Money is rounded to the cent only when it is shown.
mulch = yards to order × price per yardtons = round up (yards to order × tons per yard) to the next 0.5gravel = tons × price per tonDelivered total. Add the delivery fee once. The result is an estimate. The yard confirms the final price.
total = material + delivery
